Unfortunately, if a pet develops a serious illness that is not listed as an exclusion in the policy terms, the illness will continue to be covered in the next policy coverage period.
Whether chronic illnesses are covered at renewal depends on the age at which the pet was initially insured. If the pet was first insured at the age of 4 or younger, any chronic illness that arises during the policy period will continue to be covered at renewal.
However, if the pet was first insured at the age of 5 or older and develops a chronic illness after the waiting period, we will provide coverage for that chronic illness during the first policy year it appears. At renewal, any chronic illness that occurs during that policy year will be considered an exclusion and will not be covered in the new policy period.
Additionally, if the pet shows symptoms related to a chronic illness before the insurance is purchased or before the waiting period ends, that chronic illness will be considered a pre-existing condition and will not be covered. Therefore, you should consider obtaining insurance as soon as possible to ensure your furry friend receives lifelong coverage.
